Parents usually come to me with a worry, not a diagnosis.
Pick the one closest to what you're seeing. Each one links to what an evaluation looks like and how therapy can help.
Late talkers, first words, and knowing when to wait versus when to act.
"People can't understand my child."Speech sounds and articulation, in English and in Chinese.
"Is it a delay, or just two languages?"Bilingual evaluations that separate normal language mixing from a real difference.
"My child stutters."Fluency support for kids and coaching for the adults around them.
"We've been told to look into AAC."Device and communication-system evaluations for non-speaking and minimally speaking children.
"She talks at home but not at school."Selective mutism and social communication, with the school team included.
Two things I do most, and two more when they're needed.
Speech and language therapy
Weekly sessions built around play, routines and the words your family already uses. Ages 0 to 18, in your home language. Parents are part of every session, because the progress happens between sessions.
What therapy looks likeBilingual evaluations
A fair assessment in Cantonese or Mandarin and English, so a child isn't labeled delayed for being bilingual, or missed because the test was only in English. Reports written for families and for IEP teams.
What an evaluation includesComprehensive evaluations
Full speech-language assessment with a written report you can take to your pediatrician, school or regional center.
AAC evaluations

I learned English the hard way. That's why I do this.
I was born in Hong Kong and moved to the United States as a child speaking only Cantonese. I know what it feels like to have something to say and not be able to say it. Twenty years later, after a career in public schools and early intervention, I work with bilingual families so their children never have to feel that way.
